Description
A stone firepit may be a freestanding enclosure or part of a garden with seating and paving. The outer stonework contributes to its form, while the components exposed to heat serve the working fire. Their design and materials need to be coordinated.
History
Contemporary landscape masonry adapts the open hearth to outdoor gathering places. Stone enclosures now range from simple garden features to compositions built around specified appliances and fuel systems.
Commissioning
The fuel or appliance, location and surrounding construction should be established first. Heat-facing construction, drainage, clearances and installation responsibilities should be agreed with the appropriate specialists before the visible stone is selected.
