Description
De Lank is a silver-grey granite quarried in Cornwall, England. Quartz, feldspars and smaller amounts of other minerals form its visible grain. Sawn, honed, polished and hand-worked surfaces reveal that grain differently, allowing the same source to serve paving, inscriptions and architectural work.
History
The quarry records production from 1759 and the use of its stone in major British buildings and civil-engineering works, including Tower Bridge and the Thames Embankment.
Commissioning
The source, dimensions and finish should be specified together. For a repair, the proposed stone is best compared with the original in place. Weathering and the existing surface treatment should be considered when judging a replacement sample.
