Description

Statuario is a white marble selection associated with Carrara, Italy. A bright background and grey veining are characteristic. Suppliers distinguish it from Statuario Venato, Statuarietto and other Carrara-area selections. The amount of clear white stone and the position of veins vary between blocks.

History

The material forms part of the Carrara marble-working tradition. Its commercial name identifies a particular selection within that wider history, while individual blocks retain their own pattern and character.

Commissioning

The actual block or slabs and their orientation should be approved before fabrication. Prominent veins, joins, thin areas and finish should be considered within the design. Selection should reflect the final setting and form as well as the desired white background.
