Description
Quartzite is a rock of interlocking quartz grains. Pure varieties are white, while other constituents produce colours and bands. It is used for dimension stone, paving and designed objects. Its hardness influences cutting and surface development, and its appearance can overlap with that of other stones.
History
Quartzite develops when quartz-rich sandstone or similar material is changed by heat and pressure. The resulting interlocking texture records the transformation of the original sedimentary grains.
Commissioning
The proposed stone should have a supplier or geological identification and a finished sample. Pale, veined quartzite and marble can look similar but require different assessment. Material, finish and installation should be considered together for the intended setting.
